Roof Repair, Leak Repair and Storm Damage Repair
A small roof problem in the Northwest rarely stays small. We repair damaged shingles, worn flashing, and roof leaks for homes in Vancouver, Portland, and nearby cities, and we look for the real source of the problem so the fix lasts.
Common roof problems we repair
Most roof repairs in our area come down to wind, water, and time. These are the problems we see most often:
- Missing, cracked, or lifted shingles, often after a windstorm.
- Worn or loose flashing around chimneys, skylights, vents, and where the roof meets a wall.
- Cracked pipe boots and failed seals around plumbing vents and other roof penetrations.
- Moss damage. Moss holds moisture against the roof and can push shingle edges up.
- Water backing up at valleys and roof edges, sometimes because the gutters below are clogged.
- Damage from fallen branches and debris.
Finding the source of a roof leak
The stain on your ceiling is rarely directly under the hole in your roof. Water can enter at a flashing joint or a damaged shingle, then run along the underlayment, decking, or rafters before it drips through somewhere else. That is why patching the spot that looks wet often does not stop a leak.
When we repair a leak, we trace where the water actually gets in, checking the roof surface, flashing, and penetrations and, when we can get to it, the attic. Then we repair the source. If we find damaged decking or signs the roof is wearing out overall, we will tell you about it and explain your options.
Storm damage and emergency leak repair
Wind storms and atmospheric rivers are a regular part of life in Southwest Washington and the Portland area. Strong gusts can lift or tear off shingles, loosen ridge caps and flashing, and bring down branches, and days of heavy rain will find any opening. If water is coming into your home or you can see damage after a storm, call us right away.
24/7 emergency leak service: our emergency team takes roof leak calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 360-314-8761.
While you wait for help:
- Stay off the roof. Wet, storm-damaged roofs are slippery and may be weakened.
- Protect the inside of your home. Move belongings away from the leak, catch drips in a bucket, and turn off power to any light fixture with water near it.
- Look from the ground for missing shingles, debris, or damaged gutters, and watch for downed power lines.
- Take photos of the damage inside and out for your records and any insurance claim.
When we come out, the first goal is to stop more water from getting in. Then we can plan a proper repair.
Roof inspections
A roof inspection is a good idea after a major storm, when you notice a stain or a musty smell in the attic, before you list or buy a home, or simply when you are not sure how much life your roof has left. We check the shingles, flashing, vents, roof penetrations, and gutters for wear and signs of moisture, and give you a plain-language answer about what needs attention now and what can wait.
When a repair is not enough
Repairs make sense when the problem is in one area and the rest of the roof is sound. If the damage is widespread, the decking is soft, or leaks keep coming back, a roof replacement may be the better long-term choice, and we will be honest with you about that.
Roof repair FAQ
Is a small roof leak urgent?
It is worth dealing with quickly. Even a slow leak can soak insulation, rot roof decking, and lead to mold, and in our rainy season a small leak usually gets worse. Catching it early generally means a smaller repair. If water is actively coming in, call 360-314-8761; our emergency team takes roof leak calls 24/7.
How can I tell if wind damaged my roof?
From the ground, look for missing or out-of-place shingles, shingle pieces in the yard, bent flashing, or debris on the roof. Inside, check ceilings and the attic for new stains. Damage is not always visible from below, so an inspection after a strong storm is a good idea.
Will my homeowner's insurance cover storm damage?
That depends on your policy and on what caused the damage, and only your insurance company can decide coverage. Photos taken soon after the storm and a clear description of the damage are helpful when you contact your insurer.
